STEM Enthuse Partnership
The HEP STEM Enthuse Partnership (EP) with a defined focus around raising KS5 outcomes, ran from November 2022 until September 2024. 12 HEP schools opted in; they benefitted from CPD booked via the STEM website, utilising the £20,000 ‘virtual pot’ of funding on courses such as:
- Inspiring A level Physics
- Established teachers of A level Chemistry
- Technicians' and Teachers' conferences
- Subject knowledge enhancement : KS4 Biology
- Effective A level practical work: Physics
- Developing effective leadership in Secondary Science
- CERN Trip
However, all HEP schools benefitted from:
- CPD delivered within HEP also funded by the 'virtual pot' - e.g. DAT/Science Technicians’ meetings
- £17,000 received directly into HEP to support DAT delivery, SN delivery (across all SN) from ‘22-’24 and will be used to continue to support HEP programmes
Enthuse Partnership legacy group
Throughout the EP, during termly meetings, named contacts have been introduced to external partners and many have organised events, trips or ongoing programmes for their students as a result. For example:
- Students from Springwest and Logic partnered with a PhD student from UCL as part of the Orbyts programme from February to July 2024 to research 'Using AI and ChatGPT-like models to discover new treatments for antibiotic resistance'
- The National Physical Laboratory delivered a water rockets challenge day to year 8 students at Gumley in July 2024
- Students from Chiswick School attended the Festival of Engineering at UCL in July 2024, participating in workshops such as: Drones 4 good, Vaccine manufacture, Mission to Mars, and Forensic science at UCL
Any HEP schools wishing to opt into the legacy group will continue to meet (separate to the Science Subject Network) and share enrichment ideas, great external contacts and collaborate on opportunities for students beyond the curriculum.
Testimonial
‘It was such a valuable experience, even without all the instructors and course leaders, it was so useful to discuss ideas with other Physics teachers who are really keen on stretching our most able and inspiring students.’
